When Garry Clift from Clift Buick GMC and Marcea had a chance to talk Marcea told him about her interest in art and how she would like to become a fashion designer. Garry told Marcea that he always had an interest in cars and at one point thought he might want to be a mechanic. After taking a course at Vo-Tech he decided he was better at sales. He told her to find something she is excited about and to commit herself to learning all that she can about it and she will be happy.
When Ken Solmonson from Amedai Salon & Spa and Casey sat down to discuss the things they like to do, Casey said he wants make video games and fix computers. Ken told him he should find what he likes to do and then make a living doing it. He told Casey he could be whatever he wants to be – Believe it! He made him “double dare promise” he would always believe in himself, stay committed, and try hard.
When Barb Bates and Deb Elliott from TLC Community Credit Union and student Hanna Kane sat down to chat, Hannah shared her desire to become a vet. She loves horses and wants to go to MSU when she graduates from high school. Deb told her that college is so important and so are having goals and making plans. She advised Hannah to take classes that challenge her and learn all that she can. Deb told Hannah that her job promotions have come from her education. Barb advised Hannah to work hard, stay focused, and set big goals and dreams, because you’ll never know what you’re capable of achieving until you’ve given it 110 percent. And putting forth the extra effort now may lead to long-term advantages and opportunities that can impact and affect your entire future. Also, choose a profession that you are passionate about, because it will be much more rewarding and fun!
When Rick Morton from Citizens Gas and Emily had a chance to visit, Emily told Rick how she loves to sing and play basketball and he told her that sports are great for getting to know people, trying new things, and building confidence. In sports just like with school you have to try hard, put the time in, and stick with it. Education is key in life and as you look toward your future and accomplishing your dreams, stay close to what you like and support your interests.
When Aaron Huck from Lenawee Carpet One Floor and Home and Jesse spoke about school and the future, Jesse told Aaron how much he enjoyed school and learning with his friends in the “I Can” afterschool program, Aaron told Jesse that getting together with peers and studying hard is only going to benefit him in the long run. When students have the support of friends, it is easier to accomplish goals and there is a sense of togetherness that can carry him through difficult times.
When Jed Engle from Rima Manufacturing Co. and Marcus talked, Jed asked Marcus if he liked to read – Marcus immediately answered NO, I’d rather play football. Jed talked about how reading can be a lot of fun if you find something you are interested in and he recommended Marcus find some sports books to read this summer and then to keep on reading!
